Warts
Treatment
The human
papilloma virus (HPV) causes the skin problem
of warts. There are over a 100 strains of HPV
and different strains can be responsible for different
kinds of warts such as common warts, flat warts,
digitate warts, perlungual warts, filiform warts,
planters warts and even genital warts. But this
last condition warrants an article all on its
own. Due to the appearance of warts, many people
opt for wart
removal or treatment.
This HPV virus is present
in millions of people around the world and many
of them will live out their lives never knowing
that they carry the virus nor having a wart appear.
It is thought that usually warts tend to make
an appearance when those carrying the virus have
limited immunity and therefore children, teenagers,
the elderly and anyone who is run down or suffering
from an immune deficiency will be more likely
to develop warts. This condition is not related
to herpes.
Warts are a very common
dermatological complaint and affect 75% of people
at some time in their lives. Genital warts is
also very common, and many people therefore search
for an effective natural genital
warts treatment.
Common warts are as the
name suggests the most common strain. They can
occur all over the body. The best way to describe
these warts is that they look like a very tiny
cauliflower varying in color from light grey to
yellow or brown or grayish black. They can even
grow around or under the nails making it difficult
to treat them.
Flat warts mostly appear
on the face, neck, legs, armpits and knees. They
are very common in children. They are very small,
the size of a pinhead, and smooth with flat tops
similar in color to the surrounding skin. Sometimes
they itch or hurt.
The HPV virus can also
cause digitate warts which appear on the scalp
or near the hairline; perlungual warts
which occur around the finger nails; and filiform
warts which are long and narrow and usually seen
n the eyelids, face, neck or lips.
Planters warts are flat
surfaced warts that appear on the sole of your
foot. When a planters wart takes a firm hold on
the sole of your foot, it can be very tender,
painful and stubborn. They look like areas of
rough skin with a dry crusty surface with tiny
black dots deep inside. Planters warts should
be treated as soon as possible because they are
very contagious and if left untreated, they usually
become more embedded and painful. They can even
become cancerous after several years.
Wart removal
Most warts grow slowly
and in a small percentage of cases will disappear
within 6 months, while others may take years.
The important fact to know is that wart
removal is possible and if you treat your
warts, they will disappear much sooner. Do not
attempt wart removal yourself by burning, cutting,
tearing or picking.
Here are some of the treatment
options for removing warts:
Duct tape which is cut
to the size of the wart, applied and left on for
6 days. Then soak the area in water and gently
rub with an emery board or pumice stone. Re-apply
fresh tape again the next morning. Keep repeating
the exercise until the wart disappears. This wart
removal will take about 2 months.
Over the counter wart
removal remedies can also be used. They may take
several weeks or months before you see results.
Because they contain strong chemicals, be careful
not get any on the surrounding healthy skin. Never
use on your face.
Cryotherapy is
an efficient treatment for warts. Liquid nitrogen
is applied to freeze the wart. It is subsequently
replaced by healthy skin and peels away. Stubborn
warts may require more than one application. A
local anesthetic may be necessary to dull the
pain.
Laser treatment
is another option for wart removal. It is precise
and efficient but it can also be costly.
Warts can be surgically
removed under local anesthetic but scarring can
be a problem and it is possible for warts to recur
at the wound edge.
A natural healing formula
makes a safe and gentle wart removal treatment.
Produced from essential oils, such products are
successful in eliminating all strains of warts
including genital
warts with no skin irritation, no burning
and no scarring.
Warts can sometimes be
difficult to remove because of the thick layers
of skin making it difficult for medication to
reach the virus that causes the warts in the first
place. But it is worth persevering with your wart
removal treatment as if they are not removed,
your warts could increase in size and number
