Human
Papilloma Virus - HPV
Vaginitis is a female condition
whereby the vagina becomes inflamed. And there
are several different causes of vaginitis. These
include:
An allergic reaction to
an irritating chemical such as in a product used
in the vaginal area for example spermicide, douche
or even bath soap.
A low level of
the hormone estrogen for example after the menopause.
A foreign body
such as a tampon that has not been removed.
An infection such
as bacterial vaginosis. This type of vaginitis
results in an abnormal grayish white vaginal discharge
or an unpleasant vaginal odor and happens because
there is a switch in the type of bacteria that
normally live in the vagina. It is not known what
causes this switch and the condition in pregnant
women may increase the risk of premature delivery.
An infection such
as Candida which is a vaginal yeast
condition. Women tend to be more susceptible
to vaginal yeast infections if they are pregnant,
if they have diabetes, if they are taking antibiotics
or birth control pills, if they are douching too
often or if their bodies are under stress from
poor diet, lack of sleep or illness. Candida vaginitis
symptoms include vaginal itchiness or pain, a
thick cheese like vaginal discharge, a burning
sensation when urinating and pain or discomfort
during sexual intercourse.
An infection such
as Trichomonas. This type of vaginitis is a sexually
transmitted disease contracted during sexual intercourse
but also passed on through dirty towels or wash
cloths. This infection causes inflammation of
the vagina, cervix and urethra and can be risky
in pregnant women. The symptoms can include a
yellow-green vaginal discharge with a bad odor,
vaginal pain or itching, irritation and inflammation,
and a burning sensation during urination.
Vaginitis treatment
As there are several different
types of vaginitis, there is a different vaginitis
treatment for each type. When women have any of
the symptoms of vaginitis, they are usually very
concerned and will visit their doctor, their gynecologist
or a clinic where a gynecological examination
will be carried out to check the vaginal and any
abnormal discharge. Diagnosis may depend on a
sample of any discharge or yeast culture to be
taken for testing and vaginitis
treatment should follow as quickly as possible.
When the vaginitis is
caused by an allergic reaction, the treatment
will mean changing to a non allergic product or
doing without it altogether. The condition should
then clear up on its own.
If the cause is
a low level of estrogen, your doctor may prescribe
hormone replacement therapy.
Bacterial vaginitis
may be treated with either the antibiotic metronidazole
or clindamycin. Both of these can be taken orally
or in gel or cream form. The success rate is up
to 84 percent.
Candida vaginitis
can be treated with prescription antifungal medications
that are applied directly into the vagina. Again
the success rate is between 80 and 90 percent.
Another treatment
is a single dose of oral fluconazole. Again the
success rate is between 80 and 90 percent
There is also
a natural healing product which is specially formulated
for treating chronic Candida-related vaginitis.
This safe and successful 100 percent yeast
infection treatment is available on line.
Trochomonas vaginitis
infections are usually treated with metronidazole
given orally or as a gel. As part of the treatment
for this condition, all sexual partners of the
infected woman must also be treated. Anyone who
is pregnant and suffering from this condition
should not be given the medication until after
the first trimester. The success rate with this
medication is 90 to 95 percent.
You will see from the vaginitis
treatments available, that you have a very good
chance of treating any of the different types
of vaginitis quickly and successfully. The important
thing is to get a positive diagnosis and to start
the natural
treatment as quickly as possible.
