Genital Skin Tags
Almost 50% of the population will develop skin tags during their lifetime and many of these will be genital skin tags. If you have skin tags in your genital area, they can be vaginal skin tags, groin skin tags or anal skin tags. The worrying part about skin tags and genitalia is that your sexual partner may well be put off by their appearance and fear that you have a sexually transmitted disease even though this is not the case. Skin tags are more common in overweight individuals probably because of increased skin friction or rubbing of skin against skin as well as clothing.
Genital skin tags in the vagina
Vaginal skin tags can be an embarrassing problem for females occurring as they do on the most intimate part of their body. Vaginal skin tags are common and benign and most often occur on the outer labia (the lip of the vagina). Vaginal skin tags can be unsightly, perhaps making you feel self conscious. In some cases, vaginal skin tags become irritated by the friction during sexual intercourse or can be rubbed or chaffed by underwear. Luckily, vaginal skin tags can be removed.
Occasionally, vaginal skin tags may even appear on new born babies. These will show as small filiform fleshy hymenal papule. No treatment is necessary as the tags disappear within two months of the birth.
Genital skin tags in the groin
Men can also develop genital tags in the groin – namely skin tags on the penis and other areas of the genitalia. Not all genital skin tags look the same. Some are flesh colored while others are darker than the surrounding flesh. Some are flat while others hang off the skin by a stalk known as a peduncle. Some are wrinkled; others are smooth. Some may be as small as a pinpoint while others can grow to the size of a grape. Men can also feel unhappy about the appearance of skin tags in their genital area and will also in many cases want to have them removed. Although they are harmless, they can be chaffed by lovemaking or underwear.
Genital skin tags in the anal area
Anal skin tags are the same as the skin tags that grow elsewhere on our bodies – those shapeless lumps and flaps of skin or flesh – but these grow at the anal border and they are usually caused when we have anorectal problems such as anal fissures or anal hemorrhoids or even an injury in the anal area. For this reason, we need to have any underlying anal problem diagnosed and treated as well.
The good news is that anal skin tags are not caused by anal intercourse or by any sexually transmitted infections. But anal skin tags can become a problem if fecal matter becomes trapped under any skin tags or if they are itchy or painful. Anal skin tags are an extremely common condition. So for all of the above reasons, it is advisable to have such anal skin tags removed.
It is easy enough to have genital skin tags removed and you can choose from:
Minor surgery where your doctor removes the genital skin tags under a local anesthetic.
Cryotherapy where the genital skin tags are frozen off with the use of liquid nitrogen.
Electrocautery where the genital skin tags are removed using electric needles to destroy the tags.
Or you can remove the genital skin tags yourself at home using a natural healing product made from pure essential oils which is a safe, gentle and successful procedure.
So although genital skin tags can be an annoying and surprisingly common occurrence, they are benign and harmless skin growths which you can remove or have removed with ease if this is what you want to do.
