Anal Skin Tags
Skin tags are very common, soft but harmless lesions that appear to hang off the skin but are often attached to the skin by a stalk or peduncle and appear in different parts of the body including the genital area. However, an anal skin tag is not always as simple because it is often the result of a condition called an anal fissure which in turn is a small tear at the anus, and caused by a hard stool. During healing the anal skin becomes uneven, and the result can then be an anal skin tag. So you end up with skin tags and anal fissures.
Skin tags in the anal area can also occur if you have hemorrhoids or piles. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins inside the anus and when you have had these hemorrhoids for some time, the tissue swelling associated with the hemorrhoids may extend to the anal skin, causing anal skin tags. This can happen whether or not there is bleeding from the hemorrhoids.
What to do about anal skin tags
So when you discover you have anal skin tags, you need to be aware that these are somewhat different to the normal skin tags. They may well be because of a more serious rectal condition that needs to be addressed and treated.
Anal skin tags also differ from other skin tags in that they can be itchy or painful. They can also cause hygiene problems as fecal debris may become trapped beneath an anal skin tag and with multiple anal skin tags, such a problem grows and may cause infection.
Having read the above, you may consider it desirable to have anal skin tags removed but you also need to get to the root of the underlying conditions that are causing your skin tags in the anal area. You need to treat anal skin tags and anal fissures; or you need to treat anal skin tags and hemorrhoids. You have various options to consider and most of these can be carried out by your doctor in his surgery:
Smaller anal skin tags can be removed surgically after a local anesthetic has been administered.
Larger anal tags might need to be removed in an operating theatre.
Cryotherapy is a successful method to remove anal skin tags whereby they are frozen off by the use of liquid nitrogen.
Lasers can be used to get rid of the anal skin tags very precisely. The good news is that the anal area can be re-surfaced at the same time to give a good smooth finish.
There is also a method you can use at home. Natural healing products are available and such a product is one made with pure essential oils which will remove skin tags wherever they are including anal skin tags. This removal is achieved with no skin irritation, no burning, no pain and no scarring which makes it well worth investigating as an option. There are also natural healing products which will help with the possible underlying conditions of anal fissures or hemorrhoids too. So you can treat anal skin tags and anal fissures; or you can treat anal skin tags and hemorrhoids all with natural healing products.
How to prevent the return of the conditions that can cause anal skin tags
As we have said earlier in the article, when you have anal skin tags, there is usually an underlying problem and so you need to firstly treat the anal skin tags and secondly you need to treat the condition causing the anal skin tags. Along with the treatments you decide upon, you also need to ensure that anal fissures or hemorrhoids do not return. This means maintaining good bowel habits in the future by:
Improving your diet so that you include plenty of fiber, fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain cereals such as brown rice, bread and pasta. You can even add bran or other fiber supplements to your diet.
Drinking plenty of liquids – at least two liters per day - preferably water. Avoid alcoholic drinks as they can be dehydrating.
Getting plenty of exercise.
Always going to the toilet for a bowel movement as soon as you feel the need.
If you are still constipated, adding dried fruit such as sultanas or prunes to your diet or a mild laxative. (This should be a bulk forming laxative or one that softens the stool).
With a little time and patience, you will be able to be able to remove the skin tags and sort out the anal fissures or the hemorrhoids so that you are healthy once more.
