Severe Hemroids
Many people suffer from hemroids and the number could be as high as 50% of all adults. Most cases of hemroids are mild and do not cause too much of a problem for the person who has them. It is when you have more severe hemroid symptoms or if your hemroids are prolapsed or if your hemroids are filled with a blood clot that you may wish to seek medical advice. Diet is number one on the list of causes of hemroids and severe hemroids especially when you eat a low bulk diet.
You should call your doctor when you have bleeding from your rectum as this could be the sign of severe hemroids. Hemroids are either inside the anus (internal) or under the skin around the anus (external). Your doctor will examine the anus and rectum to look for swollen blood vessels that indicate hemroids and will also perform a digital rectal exam. Even if you have been treated for bleeding or severe hemroids in the past, it is safer for your doctor to determine the best course of action especially if you are over the age of 40. This is because there is always the slight chance that rectal bleeding could be because of colorectal cancer and other serious digestive diseases. It is always best to put your mind at rest.
You should also consult your doctor if you have severe pain or itching from your hemroids particularly if this severely interferes with your daily life or your ability to work comfortably.
If you have the more severe hemroid problems, your doctor may recommend one of the following treatment options:
Rubber band ligation – which is where a rubber band is slipped around the base of the hemroid to cut off its circulation. Once the hemroid has been deprived of its necessary blood supply, it withers and falls off.
Scierotherapy – which is when an irritating chemical solution is injected directly into the hemroid or the area around the hemroid? The solution results in a local reaction that interferes with the blood flow inside the hemroid. The hemroid shrinks.
Coagulation therapies – which are treatments using electricity, a laser or even an infrared light to destroy hemroids by burning.
Hemorrhoidectomy – which is the surgical removal of hemroids. This can be a painful but effective procedure. Obviously it involves anesthetics.
Or you can go the natural route and use a natural healing product for treating even your severe hemroids. Such products are made from pure essential oils and offer a completely safe and gentle alternative treatment for the healing of your hemroids.
While you are treating your severe hemroids, there is much you can do to ease any pain and discomfort:
Top of the list is soaking in a warm Sitz bath several times a day for about 15 minutes a time.
Apply a cold compress or icepack or try a cool cotton pad soaked in witch hazel.
Apply petroleum jelly or aloe vera gel to the anal area.
After every bowel movement, clean the anal area with a soothing baby wipe or a cotton cloth soaked in warm water but never rub or scrub.
And of course change your diet to a high bulk diet.
Diet is the key to avoiding hemroids and especially severe hemroids. It is never too late to change to a high bulk diet with plenty of vegetables and other high bulk foods.
