Hemorrhoids
Relief
Hemroids are swollen,
enlarged veins that sit just inside or outside
the anal opening. These blood vessels (veins)
lie just under the surface of the skin and can
lead to irritation of the skin with the accompanying
symptoms of pain and discomfort and even itchiness.
Occasionally there is bleeding with bowel movements.
If you are suffering from these symptoms you
are going to want relief from hemroids. The
good news is that there are lots of ways in
which you can get hemorrhoids relief.
But before you even start
your relief from hemroids program, you should
avoid constipation and you should try not to
push or strain when you are having a bowel movement:
Sitting in warm water
in your bath or in an ordinary bowl or even
a plastic sitz bath tub which fits into your
toilet, and can be purchased from the drug store,
is a very soothing way to get relief from hemroids.
It can help clean the area if it is too painful
to wipe.
Use unscented
soft white brands of toilet paper so there are
no chemicals to irritate the hemroid area.
Or you can use
fragrant free baby wipes or medicated wipes
specially made for hemroid sufferers to clean
the area.
Pads containing
witch hazel (the brand name is Tucks) can also
be purchased form your drug store and these
are very useful for cleaning and soothing the
hemroid area.
It is important
to keep the anal area clean at all times but
don’t use soap. Be careful to gently dry
the area after bathing since moisture can also
cause irritation. A hair dryer set on the lowest
setting can also be used.
Ice packs or
cold compresses applied to the hemroid area
are another form of relief from hemroids. These
should be used for 10 minutes about 4 times
per day.
Topical over
the counter hemroid treatment ointments containing
hydrocortisone can also be used.
If you feel
a hemroid beginning to stick out, very gently
push it back into the rectal canal.
Change to a
high bulk diet with plenty of fresh fruit and
vegetables, bran and whole wheat foods.
Drink plenty
of water.
Make sure you
get regular exercise every day.
Try to establish
a set pattern of a regular bowel movement every
day and never resist the urge to go to the toilet
when it arises.
You will be pleased to
know that most hemroids go away on their own
especially when you are taking good care of
them with our suggestions listed above. Very
occasionally, they might require a medical procedure
to relieve hemorrhoids so talk to your doctor
if:
You don’t get
hemroids relief from the suggestions above.
There is bleeding
from your hemroids.
Your doctor will advise
you on the best plan of action for the treatment
and relief of more severe hemroids.
