Bleeding
Hemroids
Hemroids, which are also
known as piles, refer to the inflamed and swollen
veins or large blood vessels located in the rectum,
the anal canal and the peri-anal tissues and unfortunately
bleeding hemroids are considered to be the worst
hemroids form. Roughly half of the adult population
will have to deal with hemroids or bleeding hemroids
in their life time but because of the sensitivity
of the area affected, many people feel uncomfortable
talking or confiding to others about this condition.
Although this is actually a very common disorder,
they are even often too embarrassed to go to their
doctor for diagnosis, advice and treatment for
their bleeding hemroids.
There are two types of
hemroids – internal and external.
Internal hemroids are located
within the rectum but these do not usually cause
pain because the inside of the rectum does not
have nerve endings. Sometimes internal bleeding
hemroids do occur and in fact the most common
symptom of internal hemroids is painless rectal
bleeding. You may notice bright red streaks of
blood on toilet paper after having a bowel movement
or blood on the surface of stools. If you strain
to pass stools, blood may even spray the sides
of the toilet bowl or color the water in the toilet
bowl.
External hemroids do cause
pain and bleeding. When an external hemroid has
a blood clot lodged within it, then a thrombosed
external hemroid is present. It is wise to seek
medical advice quickly as the blood clot can be
removed with a simple surgical technique. However,
if left the blood clot becomes more established
(after 72 hours) and even if removed, the symptoms
are unlikely to improve.
Bleeding hemroids
causes
Constipation is one of
the main causes of hemroids. Hardness of the stool
due to the constipation causes scraping which
in turn makes the hemroids
bleed. The appearance of streaks of blood on the
stool is a common indication of bleeding hemroids.
Pregnancy is another cause
of bleeding hemroids. Fortunately, this is a temporary
condition and the bleeding hemroids will usually
either be cured or vanish after your baby is born.
Old age, heredity and obesity
are further causes of bleeding hemroids. Such
causes can usually be counteracted by taking good
care of your health and following a healthy diet
with regular exercise, not sitting too long on
the toilet and avoiding straining to pass a bowel
movement.
One needs to be aware that
rectal bleeding is not always due to hemroids.
It is safer to get a medical opinion if you should
experience rectal bleeding symptoms. Bright red
blood is usually indicative of bleeding hemroids
whereas darker blood is more likely to come from
a problem area further up the anal canal. Depending
on the results, your doctor will diagnose whether
you have internal or external hemroids or a completely
different condition. Early diagnosis gives you
a better opportunity to get relief from bleeding
hemroids.
Treatment options
for bleeding hemorrhoids
Injection sclerotherapy
where a chemical solution is injected around the
blood vessel to shrink the hemroid.
Laser coagulation
where lasers are used to get rid of the hemroid
tissue.
Infrared photocoagulation
where a special device is used to burn hemroid
tissue.
Rubber band ligation
where a rubber band is placed around the base
of the hemroid inside the rectum which cuts off
circulation so the hemroid withers away within
a few days.
Hemroidectomy
where extensive or severe internal or external
situations may require removal by surgery.
You may prefer to go the
more natural route and try a natural healing product
made from pure essential oils for your treatment
for bleeding hemroids. Firstly, you use one treatment
to treat the bleeding condition which is a milder
anti inflammatory formula, which also relieves
acute pain from bleeding hemroids and reduces
the swelling. Then once the bleeding has healed,
the second treatment is used to eliminate the
actual hemorrhoids. This is a gentle, safe and
successful option.
Whatever method of treatment
you decide upon, it is advisable to start such
treatment as soon as you can, to get relief from
the pain and discomfort of bleeding hemroids.
