Athletes
Foot Treatment
Athletes foot (medical
term tinea pedis) is a very common fungal infection
that grows on human skin but especially the feet.
Athletes foot affects mostly men of all ages,
as well as young people, and appears in the area
between the toes, on the soles of feet as well
as in the fingernails and toenails. There can
be a burning or itching sensation on the feet
while cracked, blistered or peeling areas often
occur between the toes and especially the two
small toes where the rash starts to peel and crack.
There can sometimes be single, small patches of
extremely itchy blisters. There can be redness
and scaling on the soles of the feet or a rash
that spreads to the instep. The skin between the
toes may look “cheesy”
and have an unpleasant odor.
The athletes feet infection,
once it takes hold, grows and multiplies - particularly
in a dark, moist and warm environment. As you
can imagine a sock in a shoe provides the perfect
home! Athletes foot is very contagious and may
easily be picked up when walking barefoot in public
places. Up to 70% of the male population will
have athletes foot at some time during their lives.
Cure athletes foot
This condition is called
athletes foot for the very reason that it is mostly
athletes (and athletes feet) that contract the
condition. And athletes frequent gyms, swimming
pools, locker rooms and showers.
Here are some helpful hints
to either prevent athletes foot in the first place
or to treat and cure athletes foot once you have
it:
Wash your feet every day,
or even better twice a day, with a mild soap paying
special attention to the area between the toes.
Wear sandals or
flip flops in the shower – particularly
in public places – as well as around swimming
pools.
Be wary of shared
exercise and yoga mats. Rather invest in your
own personal mat or purchase yoga mat wipes or
hand and foot mitts to avoid the risk of infection.
If you are concerned about
possible infection
in your own home or pool area, use flip flops
and keep the shower and bathroom floors well disinfected
Soak the feet
regularly in Epsom salts and warm water.
After washing
or showering, dry your feet very carefully, again
particularly the area between the toes.
Keep the toenails
cut short and straight across.
Dust an antifungal
powder on your feet and into your shoes. Wear
leather or canvas shoes but never plastic. Your
feet need to breathe.
Wear your shoes
in rotation – that is do not wear the same
pair two days running and never put on shoes that
are damp.
Spray your shoes
with a disinfectant and put them out in the sun
to help kill germs
.
Wear cotton socks
or special running socks which absorb sweat when
doing sports. In fact, cotton socks are healthier
to wear with your everyday shoes as well. Change
these socks frequently and always put on clean
ones after washing your feet.
It is important to keep
your feet dry because damp breeds bacteria
and bacteria causes rot.
Go barefoot at
home whenever you can.
Avoid tight, closed-in
footwear especially in the summer. Sandals and
flip flops let the feet breathe.
Visit the chiropodist
if you are at all concerned about the health and
well being of your feet.
Refrain from popping
any blisters which may appear on your feet –
this can introduce dirt into a tender area of
the skin and may result in infection.
If you discover
signs of athletes foot or any other infections,
start treatment straight away.
Use a natural healing
formula as a treatment and to cure athletes foot.
This same product can be used for nail and toenail
fungus too. It is very important with athletes
foot to continue athletes
foot treatment to the end of the course –
that is at least 2 weeks after the skin starts
to look normal - in order to eradicate all the
remaining fungal spores and to cure athletes foot.
Such a product is made from pure essential oils
and is very successful in healing that stubborn
and very common fungal infection known as athletes
foot.
Remember that your skin
is constantly being shed and this dead skin drops
off in small pieces all the time. If such skin
contains the athletes foot fungus, then it can
be picked up on the bare feet of others and they
in turn can become infected.
